This is one of my more positive articles about things that have happened to me at my place of working out, the gym.
For the most part, besides for the few ignorant people I have come across, most of the people I have seen are very helpful and motivating when I ask for advice or any kind of help.
I used to hate asking people for a spot or any help, thinking that they would either make fun of me for asking or just rudely say no. I have not had that experience yet.
For instance, I was shoulder pressing 135 lbs a few months ago and had to ask for a lift when I was getting it off the rack. The guy politely spotted and aided me. Noticing that I had struggled a little bit, he made one suggestion and said that “if you do this, you will do this weight without any problem.” The next set, I took his advice. I pounded that weight like it was nothing and felt it a lot more in my shoulders.
It is people like that that make going to the gym easier, especially for a person that is just starting to go.
I just want to say that for the newbies out there, do not be afraid to ask a jacked guy for help. They know what they are doing and, for the more part, have no problem giving advice to a person with the same goals.
And in the end, everyone will eventually need a spot no matter what the weight is.
